My love of photography started at an early age – sneaking my
father’s camera and taking pictures of just about everything I saw. Those first pictures were typical city shots
but as time went on I turned to a wider range of subjects and found myself
gravitating to nature, taking photos of trees, rocks, and landscapes. And I gave my father back his camera and
bought my own.
It wasn’t until I was in the army that learned about the
different types of cameras, started working in the dark room, and began taking
classes in photography. Now photography became a passion. Maybe only another photographer will
understand the excitement that comes from the lights, the film, the smell of
the developing chemicals, and the magic of seeing a photo coming to life in that
small dark room.
After many years of taking photos on film, I moved into
digital photography. All my knowledge of film photography continues to pay
off. My dark room is now a computer and the
software I use to edit and print today’s photos.
All told, you can see that I enjoy photography – enjoy it so
much that is has become my second profession.
My specialty is mountains and wildlife. You can find me
giving presentations about the White Mountains
of New Hampshire presentation at
AMC lodges (Highland Center and Pinkham Notch Visitors Center) , local
libraries, and other organizations such
as Boy Scout troops and senior citizen centers.
I not only show my photos but talk about the history of the White
Mountains, the early settlers, and the explorers of the 18th and 19th
centuries. I am also an
information volunteer for the Appalachian Mountain Club helping hikers with
trail and safety information, and pointing out the most beautiful places – just
in case they too want to take a photo.
